Lena's Floral Designs — Union Station
Project Overview
Lena's Floral Designs is a boutique luxury florist operating inside Toronto's Union Station, one of Canada's busiest transit hubs. Olive Tree Builds was engaged to address two critical operational issues: the setup of a newly acquired walk-in cooler unit within the rented space, and the full replacement of a failing floral display case that was unable to maintain proper temperature.
The Challenge
Working inside Union Station presents significant logistical constraints: strict delivery windows, limited access routes, noise restrictions during peak transit hours, and coordination with Metrolinx and the building's facilities management team. Both scopes required precise refrigeration work in a live retail environment with no ability to close the business for extended periods.
Our Approach
Olive Tree Builds coordinated all work around Union Station's operational schedule, completing the most disruptive phases during off-peak hours. The walk-in cooler was fully commissioned within the rented unit, including all refrigeration rough-ins, insulation, and door hardware. The failing floral display case was removed and replaced with a new temperature-controlled glass unit engineered to maintain consistent cold storage for fresh flowers.
The Outcome
Both scopes were completed without disruption to Lena's daily operations. The new walk-in cooler provides reliable cold storage that protects the business's flower inventory, and the replacement display case maintains consistent temperature, eliminating the product loss and client experience issues caused by the previous failing unit.
